EGJ, TB, MM need to confirm Pre-launch date and Freshers Fair
TB: Pre-Launch confirmed as the 5 Oct
Freshers Fair (Sussex): 28th October
Free Culture congress: 1st October
(MM) Suggested to put calendar up on website/ wiki page. See Calendar here
Pre Launch
(TB) Planning to make an audio visual video for the Pr-Launch at the Hanbry Ball room . She offered to ask Anna what equipment is available at the venue so that we can plan what we can do.
(?) There will be a 40 minute slot to fill.
(MM) There will be time for two acts
(TB) Will ask Liza if she would be interested in performing. (EGJ &or TB) Asked if Pete B would be able to perform.
(TB) Not been practicing/ playing much so not confident to commit to this.
(TB) We need to come up with a plan B incase what we have lined up falls through.
(TB) Her audio Visual piece for Open Congress should be reused for the Pre-Launch because it has been so much work is would make more sense to use it more than one. It would also be too much work to create something else completely from scratch –it could be revamped, remix etc for the Pre-Launch.

(MM) Care needs to be taken so that we are tied in too closely to Creative Commons. We need a separate and distinctive group.
(TB) -Talked about the Creative Commons video. Trine explained that it juxtaposed dry academics explanations with Hip-Hop artist’s views to interesting affect. She explains Hip Hop is remix culture, according to the video, but artist are being prevented from continuing this culture because of copyright law.
(EGJ) 8minutes is a long time for a video. Will people get bored?
(MM) Video can be edited cut down.
(EGJ) Do we need VJ or just video?
(TB) We all need to think about this!
(MM) How else will we promote RB & FC Group? Will we hand out flyers.
(TB) We should use the same flier for the Freshers fair as the Pre-launch.
(EGJ) In Remix Reading a lot of publicity was created by compiling email list. Strongly recommends that we do the same. Also asks for help from rest of group.
(TB) How did you keep a record of finances in RR (asking EGJ).
(EGJ) Just remembered what we contributed
(TB) We should perhaps keep receipt etc of money that we spend so that if we do get funding that money can be paid back.
(EGJ) Obviously don’t spend much money as there is no guaranty that you will get it back.
(?) How will the paying of artist at the pre launch work? (MM) The organizers will get a set fee and it will be up to them to divide it up amongst the artists.
(TB) Emphasizes that it is the most important thing to pay artists.
Freshers Fayre
(EGJ) -E-mailed Sussex about booking Freshers Fair stool but no reply. He will make a visit tomorrow (Monday 12/0905) to ensure a stool is booked.
(PB, EGJ, TB) –We need someone else to offer PB help at Brighton Fresher Fair.
(PB) What is the product we are trying to sell to people? What are we promoting? How will we demonstrate what we are promoting and engage people. Explain that he has been involved with many Freshers fair before and engaging people is really difficult, even with a product e.g. swimming, Judo etc.
(PB) -Explained that to be an official club of Brighton University you need a certain amount of members. Would there have to be other meeting for the club?
(EGJ) This does not mater. Peoples involvement is up to them and not dependant on a set club. We do not have to quality as a club we can just do the Freshers Fair and then disperse.
(EGJ) We will need Posters & Banners. Could PB help him compile email lists and make banners?
(DNS) Offered to print banner if Edd could make a mock-up (Limitations: B&W/ Maximum Height of 84.1cm/ Maximum Length 2000 cm)
(EGJ) Training for Sussex Freshers Fair is being offered the Tues, Wed, Thurs before the event.
(TB) Will try and make one of the days/ sessions.
(PB) Are we going to promote launch event at Fresher Fair?
(TB) Idea that we could say if you join our society you will get in free. We could pay out of money for artists. Possibly half price because this may not be the best use of the money.
(MM) Perhaps we should play it by ear on the day, for example hold back free entry if there are lots of people joining.
(PB) If there is a lot of interest, the meetings the way they work at the moment, will not work. People will get board and not come back.
(EGJ) we need at least two people to focus on Brighton and Sussex Freshers Fair.
(PB) Emphasizes that it is difficult to create interest even with a product?
Wiki Website
(DNS) Are we going to try and have a working RB & FC Group website i.e. not just a front page but a working website showing how you can download, remix and upload content.
(All?) Some agreement that this would really help those at the freshers fair and be practical demonstration of part of RB & FC Group. It was agreed a vote was needed for what was going to happen regarding the website at the Freshers Fair.
(All) What are the possibilities?
- RB using RR code
- Wiki Front page with RB in frame with links to RB, Brighton wiki, Our media etc
- A completely wiki site
- (temporary) Wiki front page with links to RB (up and running with RR code), Brighton wiki and Our media.

Meeting place
(TB) Meeting at Sussex/ Falmer would be beneficial as it is free and there are lots of meeting spaces and possibly with internet.
(EGJ) A long way to travel for some people. Gave himself as an example.
(DNS) what happened to the other places that people were investigating?
(TB) Eco Centre want £10 an hour for there meeting space which we don’t have.
(MM) Commercial spaces on the sea front are not interested.
(TB) Suggested a weeknight might be better
(EJG) Marcus has to commute and would not be able to make it till 8:30 pm. This makes the meeting a bit late. A week night after most people finish work around 6pm but not everyone can make that.
Funding
(MB) Should we wait till after Freshers fair before appling for funding? So that we can say – look we have had a successful freshers fair and have had interest.
(EGJ) We can’t really keep postponing it. We should start to write proposals and find out more. If this is completed after the Freshers fair then we can talk about its positives and feed them back into proposals.
