MINUTES
1. Go Through last week's meeting. (MM)
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
2. What is Remix Brighton?
[EGJ]: presented print-out of "aims" for RB (Remix Brighton). These can also be found on the Wiki: http://www.freeculture.org.uk/wiki/BrightonAims
[OL]: suggested aims of group might surface through doing events.
[TBB] No need for bullet points as we all agree on aims of group, Free Culture, Copyleft etc.
[EGJ]: All should read and think about the ideas in their own time and decide whether to get involved in RB only or wider group (FCUK - http://www.freeculture.org.uk/ - see website for more of what they are about)
[MM]: commitment can vary within RB group, suggested further debate about involvement moved to Wiki.
ACTION: All should read and think about the ideas in their own time and decide whether to get involved in RB only or wider group (FCUK - http://www.freeculture.org.uk/ - see website for more of what they are about)
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
3. Logo
[DS]: handed out many printed sheet demonstrating some of the ideas with his design (also on Wiki - http://www.freeculture.org.uk/wiki/BrightonLogos )
No explanation, however, was provided. Debate ensued and it was agreed that (in accordance with minutes from last week) the designers must provide a short explanation of their work as a condition of being considered in the vote.
[MM] suggested to set up sub-committee of designers and others interested, to reduce number of logos to 4 or 5 which can then be voted on at next meeting.
[PB]: Should we use a typeface as our identity or a Logo? [MM]: Typeface allows flexibility in the designs/hand-outs etc.
[EGJ]:
[PB]: suggested not having a fixed logo, but allow for it to be changed, whereas the typeface could be constant.
[EGJ] There should be no restrictions on designers in terms of use of colour.
ACTION - MM send out email to list asking for design sub-committee volunteers
ACTION - All designers: need to supply paragraph explanation of design (from last meeting - this is a condition for submission)
ACTION - Sub-committee meet and within 10 days present 4 - 5 designs on Wiki with explanations.
VOTING ON LOGO WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE NEXT GENERAL MEETING (In 2 weeks, see below). Those unable to attend meeting, can vote by proxy.
ACTION - RLR collect proxy votes and present at meeting.
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
9. Any Other Business
A. Site Design
[EGJ]: what do we want site to do. Should we reuse code from RR site? Or start again
[TBB] : Suggested (from DB) using a Wiki (Media-Wiki) and opening the uploads page, radically, open, user friendly - and with RB people "policing" it to prevent spam, porn etc.
[EGJ] Important not to limit bandwidth, suggestions made of alternative hosting, like Archive.org, YouTube etc.
[TBB] Important that RB does not become a virtual group, but that the wiki and mailing lists facilitate offline meetings and events.
ACTION - ALL make suggestions on Wiki ( http://www.freeculture.org.uk/wiki/BrightonWebSiteIdeas ) - about what they want from the site.
B. Meeting Space
[TB] talked to Cowley club, and we could become members (MA believed it is £1 to join), one member can sign in 2 people in the evenings.

ACTION - ALL look out for meeting spaces.
C. How to make decisions? How to resolve issues?
We had a long debate on whether to vote on issues like the Logo online (in mailing list) or in the meetings.
[TBB] suggested votes should take place at meetings and if someone can't make meeting then they can vote by proxy.
[EGJ] suggested 'external' people should be allowed to vote, i.e. everyone on the lists (35? people)
[TBB] group must be allowed to make decisions at meetings?
Not decided, but suggestion for decision making process suggested with Vote on Logo. See above.
